HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Who should learn CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)? Everyone!

Learning HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is a simple way to save a life. It offers emergency assistance during the critical first few minutes after breathing has ceased. By providing CPR, you may also prevent brain damage due to lack of oxygen.

This unit needs to be updated every 12 months to remain current.

IMPORTANT:  Please read prerequisites before enrolling in this course.

Course Content

HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation can be learned in one four hour session at DVLC. Participants who successfully complete this training will receive a Statement of Attainment.

You will learn this vital rescue procedure, and increase your confidence in any situation where a family member or other person is in critical condition. Knowing the correct technique is crucial to giving the best chance of recovery.

This course requires pre-reading. On enrolment you will receive a copy of ‘Defibrillation & CPR’ by John Haines, which will take about 1 hour to read. You will also need to answer a set of multiple choice questions, and bring the answers with you when you come to class. This will form part of your assessment.

The session includes theory and practical assessments of:

  •     Introduction to CPR
  •     First Aid Priorities
  •     Compressions
  •     Rescue Breathing
  •     Defibrillation
  •     Recovery and Handover

You will need to update the unit HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation every 12 months to remain current and confident in your ability to administer life-saving CPR.

Prerequisites

  • Pre-reading (textbook) and multiple choice questionnaire must be collected from DVLC at least a few days prior to training day.
  • USI NUMBER: From 1 January 2015, all students doing nationally recognised training need to have a Unique Student Identifier. A USI is a free reference number made up of numbers and letters. You can get yours here.
  • Participants in this course must be able to perform a physical demonstration of CPR on an adult manikin on the floor before competency can be awarded.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing.
