Want to learn how to create professional-looking flyers, social media posts, presentations, posters and other visual content without complicated design software?

Our Introduction to Canva course is designed for beginners who want to learn Canva in a friendly and supportive environment. You’ll discover how to use Canva’s easy-to-learn design tools and free colourful templates to create attractive designs for work, business, community activities or personal projects.

Delivered face-to-face at Diamond Valley Learning Centre (DVLC) in Greensborough, this practical course gives you plenty of opportunities to practise, ask questions and create your own designs.

No previous Canva or graphic design experience is required.

What is Canva?

Canva is an easy-to-use online graphic design platform that allows you to create everything from social media graphics and business cards to flyers, posters, presentations and invitations.

You don’t need to be a graphic designer to use Canva. Its drag-and-drop tools and extensive range of free templates, images, graphics, fonts and design elements make it easy for beginners to start creating.

What You’ll Learn in Our Canva Course

Throughout this 5-week course, you’ll work on practical activities while becoming familiar with Canva’s most useful tools and features.

You will learn how to:

  1. Understand Canva and the different ways it can be used
  2. Navigate the Canva interface and find commonly used tools
  3. Find and customise Canva’s free templates
  4. Create flyers, posters and social media graphics
  5. Add and customise text, images and logos
  6. Upload your own photos, logos and other content
  7. Apply basic design principles including layout, spacing, balance and consistency
  8. Build confidence using Canva’s everyday design tools
  9. Work with layering, alignment and colour schemes
  10. Download designs for print or digital use

By the end of the course, you’ll have the confidence and practical skills to continue creating your own Canva designs independently.

Who Is This Beginner Canva Course For?

Our Introduction to Canva course is suitable for anyone who wants to develop their digital and visual communication skills.

You don’t need to consider yourself “creative” or have previous design experience. The course is delivered in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment, with time to practise and ask questions along the way.

Being able to create clear and attractive visual content is increasingly useful in the workplace, small business and community organisations.

Our classes are designed to provide a welcoming and supportive learning environment for people with different levels of digital confidence.

What Do I Need to Bring?

Please bring your own laptop to each session if possible. If you do not have a laptop, computers are available for use during class

You will also need access to an email address so you can create or sign in to your Canva account. A free Canva account is sufficient for the course. You do not need a paid Canva Pro subscription.

Funded Fee: Applies to all Australian or New Zealand Citizens, Holder of an Australian permanent visa, An Asylum seeker holding a valid visa that confers eligibility for Skills First training.

Concession Fee: Applies only to holders of a current Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card or Veteran’s Gold Card

Full Fee: Applies to those who do not qualify for government funding, ie. overseas residents and school students

This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding.
