Sign Language for Beginners

Learn basic Australian sign language (Auslan) with our sign language for beginners course. Auslan is the sign language of the Australian Deaf community. If you are new to Auslan and just beginning to learn it, this is the ideal course to start with.

In this sign language course you will learn the basics of Auslan such as alphabet, numbers, basic signs, pronouns, families, colour, communication guide, community/relationships, emotions, directions, Auslan grammar, money, food and how to finger spell.

Our sign language course will run for 8 weeks with 2hrs of face to face class each week. Learn from our experienced educator who has been teaching Auslan for more than 12 years and has hearing impairment.

This course is an excellent add on to improve the skills of people working as disability support workers, community service workers, nurses, doctors, welfare workers and police. In addition, the sign language course improves the quality of family communication for hearing people with deaf or hard of hearing family members.

Course Content

Learning to sign can enable you to:

  • Improve your ability to communicate with deaf people, friends and relatives;
  • Communicate directly with members of the deaf community;
  • Communicate more effectively;
