Auslan, the primary language used by the deaf and hard-of-hearing community in Australia, is a visual language with its own unique grammar, syntax, and cultural references. Learning Auslan is not only a fun and fulfilling experience but also a valuable skill that allows you to communicate with a vibrant community.
Successful completion of Certificate II in Auslan will enable you to enrol in Certificate III in Auslan.

There are no formal requirements but students will have to attend an on-campus pre-enrolment interview.

Annemarie O’Connell (HOH) – has over 24 years experience as a Teacher of the Deaf in signed and facility settings, an Educational consultant for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students , and teacher of Auslan since 2019. She recently moved into Adult education and joined the team at DVLC, working as a trainer both on site and in business settings.
Gary Holmfield.- has been teaching Auslan since 2010, firstly with Expression Australia (formerly the Victorian Deaf Society) and later with the Diamond Valley Learning Centre since 2015. He has been involved with several Deaf organisations within the Deaf community and has a passion for Australian Deaf History.

In addition, students are expected to complete approximately 15 to 20 hours per week for individual study, online learning, reviewing class material, preparing assessments, and review of sign learned in class.
DVLC will recognise AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation.
DVLC will offer students the opportunity for their previous formal and informal skills to be recognised through the Recognition of Prior Learning process. Assessment for RPL will be done on a unit by unit basis. Students will need to demonstrate that they have met the assessment requirements including practical training hours.
