Welcome to Aspektism. This course is one of the first of its kind in Australia developed and targeted at parents, carers, teachers, and for the general public alike. It is designed to gain insight into how autism affects the lives of those individuals who have the disorder.

This 8 week course will teach you how to look after a person with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). The course outlines the following topics: Lifeism, Behaviourism, Overism, Comprehensism, Empathism & Skillsism.

This course also discusses and participants learn about the quality of life for an individual with ASD, and why they are prevented from doing things they want to do. Other topics will include how participants will learn more about the differences of learned behaviours, meltdowns & the strategies to handle them, what are the drivers of concern in a meltdown & how to handle them.

This course is for you as a parent/carer/teacher/support worker to learn the skills necessary, to help your teen/adult grow up to be independent adults in the world. The sooner you gain the skills necessary to help them, the quicker they learn to adapt to become totally independent people themselves.

Aspektism has been written and developed from a lived individual’s perspective on the autism spectrum disorder. All advice given in this course is dependent on the level of impairment of the individual with ASD.

You will find that undertaking this course has its many challenges, and we trust that you learn and gain valuable skills when undertaking Aspektism, and that it changes your perspectives you see now and in the future about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
