Writing & Spelling for Work & Study

Develop your confidence in writing and spelling English, and enhance your opportunities for work or study. This course is designed for adults who struggle with writing, spelling and grammar and for those who would like to improve their skills.

This course is designed for students who want to improve their skills and confidence in English. It is suitable for both EAL and native English speakers, and can provide a pathway to further study, improve employment opportunities and confidence in the workplace. Focus on the essential patterns of English language and learn key strategies to improve these skills.

Classes are small, relaxed and friendly. Students receive individual help and can work at their own pace on the writing and spelling skills they need to improve.

Course Content

Classes are small, relaxed and friendly. Students receive individual help and can work at their own pace on the writing and spelling skills they need to improve.

During the course students will:

  • Learn to write more clearly and in different styles.
  • Learn to write with more accurate spelling and punctuation.
  • Develop useful strategies for improving spelling.
  • Develop an understanding of the patterns of English.
  • Learn different ways to learn and memorise.
  • Receive assistance with their individual needs.
  • Develop proofreading and editing skill.

Students’ progress will be measured in an on-going way through:

  • Homework tasks.
  • Class work.

Prerequisites

Class Text

DVLC’s Spelling Guide is provided at no additional cost to students. This text has been designed by our teachers and is available to assist students in all our programs become independent and confident spellers

Stationery

Students will need to bring:

  • An A4 exercise book
  • Some A4 loose paper
  • A pencil and a pen

Materials Fee of $29.95 (Optional)

Funded Fee: Applies to Australian or New Zealand Citizens, Holder of an Australian permanent visa, An Asylum seeker holding a valid visa that confers eligibility for Skills First training.

Concession Fee: Applies only to holders of a current Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card or Veteran’s Gold Card

Full Fee: Applies to those who do not qualify for government funding, ie. overseas residents and school students

Make payment in full on enrolment either by cash, credit card or EFTPOS. In some circumstances, it is possible to arrange a payment plan. Conditions apply.

To finalise your enrolment, you will be asked to present your Medicare card at reception for us to sight and photocopy.  This is for proof of Australian residence purposes.  Concession card holders will also need to present their concession card.
