Digital Solutions for Gig Economy Workers

This course will help you to develop your knowledge about gig work features and requirements. It will introduce you to gig applications (apps) and help you navigating these apps to find information about gig work activities.

This course will also help you develop your knowledge, skills, and confidence using different digital technologies in a number of workplace situations.

You will have opportunities throughout the course to develop your skills and share your knowledge. You will be supported, encouraged, and challenged through a range of online and digital activities throughout the course.

 

What is Gig Economy:

The gig economy is a system where individuals offer services to consumers through digital platforms or marketplaces and are paid a fee. This arrangement allows consumers to have more options and flexibility in their day-to-day lives.

Some common gig economy services in Australia include:

– Ride-sharing services: Consumers can book an individual to drive them to their desired destination.
– Delivery services for a fee: Consumers can hire an individual to deliver food or other items to them.
– Personal services for a fee: Consumers can engage an individual to provide creative or professional services such as graphic design and web development, or complete odd jobs like assembling furniture and house painting.

Funded Fee: Applies to Australian or New Zealand Citizens, Holder of an Australian permanent visa, An Asylum seeker holding a valid visa that confers eligibility for Skills First training.

Concession Fee: Applies only to holders of a current Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card or Veteran’s Gold Card

Full Fee: Applies to those who do not qualify for government funding, ie. overseas residents and school students
